I play volleyball and I am thinking about doing cross country prior to my volleyball season. Is that a good idea?

  1. i play volleyball too!

i dont really know but try running a certain distance and then jumping as high as you can an land in the same place, then run again and do the same

    hope it helps!!

  2. No way. Running helps loosen you muscles. When I used to run I was able to jump alot higher than I can now. Stretching alot before you run helps to keep you muscles loose. Trust me it can only help.

  3. actually it does the opposite running sprints quickly helps your jump improve

  4. I'm not sure how much long distance running would help in jumping. After all, when do you run for 20 minutes at a time in a volleyball game? If you want to improve your vertical, do things that you would do during a game. Do squats, calf raises and just play a lot of volleyball!

  5. long distance running does decrease your vertical. sprinting is so much better because it accustoms your body to sudden switches in momentum, which is what happen when you jump, you go from moving forward to moving up. When you run long distances , you get used to only moving in one direction so when you do your approach, your body wants to keep moving forward instead of going up

  6. running long distances doesnt decrease your vertical jump....but you should remember to keep working out your calfs and practice your jumping inbetween running

  7. There is scientific proof that your body has 2 types of fibers in your legs.....there are slow twitch fibers and fast twitch fibers.  Long distance running works the slow twitch fibers which DECREASES your vertical.  Sprinting will INCREASE or MAINTAIN your vertical.  If you run long distances, your volleyball will suffer.  I hope this helps.
