  1. Just a quick answer:

    random sampling is selecting people/things randomly as the name suggests. its preferred because it does not allow for bias.

    An easy example: if you wanted to see what the most popular music on a university campus you would randomly select males, females, students, professors, ect to get a mix of old, young, and mixed s*x. This would give the best data since all groups are involved and have an equal chance of being selected. This method does not allow for bias.

    If you did no use random sampling you may be more inclined to ask people most like you (male, color, dress style) and have fewer people less like you. This would incur bias as only certain people are polled.
