I don't have a picture. There's a new boarding horse at my barn that's really odd-looking. he has a blue-grey-white-black mottled coat, purplish black points, and a red head. Just curious, no idea what the color's called (or if it has a name).

  1. grulla, some sort of roan, probably a cross of the two.

  2. Maybe he is young and changing his color from bay to grey. Some horses are born bay chestnut or black and turn greyer as they age looking unique every year until the mature grey coat. I have seen some colors that don't match any specific "color". A morgan that was red bay in color with black legs and flaxen mane and tail but Uc davis tested as Palomino so you never know. Maybe one of a kind.

  3. ummm....maybe a blue or red roan????

hope i helped (best answer right here..=D)

  4. its sounds "odd colored" it is a registered color tho

  5. wow i would have to see a picture..cause a picture doesnt even pop into my head when i look at all those colors. Sorry, he must look pretty interesting tho ill give you that

  6. palamino?

    or maybe a morrigan

  7. Kevin is right. He definately sounds like a roan.

  8. I'd say some type of roan. I might say grulla if he was without the red head :)

  9. a bay roan is an uncommon colour but i've met a few it's like they are blue roan all over their body except their heads are bay colour and there legs have black points

  10. I am pretty sure he is Blue or red roan.

  11. Sounds like a bay roan to me.

He could possibly be a rose gray.. Which is a horse with red base coat that is graying out... some pics:

A bay roan will have a bay face, dark points and red and white hairs mixed throughout the body while a gray will have a lighter face *the face usually grays before the rest of the body* and mixed hairs with or without dark points.

  12. its probably a roan. Grulla's are the color of a field mouse, that mean a kind of grey. Palamino's are golden.

What your discribing is a roan

  13. Would just love to see a picture!  Red head?  Sounds like some sort of grey.  I would ask the owner.

  14. he's probably what's called a bay roan actually. bay roans have solid red heads, blackish blue points, and bluish to redish grey tinted bodies. here  are some pictures of some bay roans

**it's not a red roan. red roans can't have black points. a true red roan has no black points anywhere! for more color definitions go here:

  15. Definately a blue roan. Blue roans have a semi-tinted head that varies from a light red to a darker, deeper red, usually depending on the light and eating habits.

  16. Each breed recognizes the color differently, but there are typically 3 basic roan types.

Blue roan - roan over black, so the head is black, legs and points are black, mane and tail are black.

Red Roan - roan over bay, so you have reddish tones to the body, red face, black and red on the legs, black points, and black mane and tail.

Strawberry Roan - roan over chestnut/sorrel, so all red points.

I think what you have is a RED ROAN.

If it was something like a grulla (some posters said this) you would have a dark dorsal stripe, and the whole body would be the same mousy color.  Roan looks more like flecks of silver and red mixed together.

Here is an example of a red roan:

some will be lighter or darker depending on how severe the roaning is.

  17. Maybe a grulla? http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/dreams...

    A mixed paint?

    Rabicano? http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/dreams...

    Mixed tobiano/overo?

    Sabino? http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/dreams...

Deffintly could be a uniquely colored appaloosa. http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/dreams...

Ask someone around the barn, or the owner.

  18. he is most likely a grulla. they can very in color so the red head is probly just a mix. but enerythimg else you described is right for a grulla
