  1. Practice breathing underwater but not swimming...like go under water for a little while...then breathe and repeat..make sure that you breathe out when you are underwater....it makes it much much easier and then it becomes more like natural breathing although it is still a lot harder than when out of the water

  2. Practice proper breathing out of the pool or in shallow water.

  3. Be patient and relax. First of all stay in the shallow end of the pool so that you are definately sure you won't drown. Then hold your breath and pinch your nose the way you do when there's a bad smell and enter the water whilst holding your breath and stay underwater for about 3 seconds. Come out and rest for about 10 sec. and then go in again and this time make it 4 seconds and just keep doing that until you're able to hold your breath for at least 18 seconds. Then you can try without pinching your nose, go through the whole process again until you can do 18 seconds at the least. If you have a problem with holding your breath without pinching your nose, try it on land. Just hold your breath and don't breathe with your nose or your mouth. Can you do that? Then try it in water. Don't worry I'm sure you'll ge it with a little patience, you're gasping because you're not relaxed and maybe a bit afraid, it's normal, do not worry. Just be patient and practice, you'll get there. Good luck!

  4. When you turn your face into the water, breathe out. When you turn to the side, breathe in.

  5. practice holding your breath or something that acquires the use of stamina like running
