you need wraps, mouth-guard with up and bottom protection (you should start w/ a cheap one but then eventually go to a dentist to have one molded to your mouth), headgear, groin protection, bag gloves, sparing gloves (these have an elastic cover over the Velcro), jump-rope, good sneakers (I would recommend samba made by Adidas), shorts or sweat pants

all this can add up to be a lot of money.  I would recommend getting at least your wraps, mouth-guard, cup, and sneakers right away b/c often gyms will have the other stuff there for you to use at the gym but eventually you want to have all your own equipment
