  1. V6 options: Honda Accord, Mitsubishi Eclipse (2000+), Nissan Altima, Hyundai Tiburon.

You will be able to make a v6 plenty fast enough. h**l, you can make a 4 cylinder plenty fast enough, but it sounds like you have your mind set on 6 or more! Also, if properly tuned, a v6 will still have decent gas mileage, up until the point when you throw a turbo/ supercharger on!

  2. yes. yes you do

  3. I4 or V6 would be fine.

Of course V6s won't get as good of mileage as a 4 banger but I tend to prefer them.

I drive a 1994 Nissan Maxima, Maximas are great cars. I prefer the 89-94 since it is sleeker but the 97-99 model has a pretty nice front end, not so good on the rear though. You are right about their pricing, old maxs are dirt cheap. The 89-94 puts out 160hp with the VG30E (don't get the 92-94's SE with the VE30DE - it's less reliable) and the 95-99 has a VQ30DE which puts out 190hp.

Nissan 300ZXs share the 3rd gen Maxima's VG engine block and for 83-89 it has 160-165hp and turbo is 200-205. The 90-96s make 222hp and twin turbo takes it to 300hp. All 300ZXs are RWD.

As far as I4s go Nissan also makes some of the best with the big KA24DE in the RWD 240SX putting out 155hp. The best front wheel drive I4s are the B13 Sentra SE-Rs with the SR20DE or the NX2000 which has the same engine.

Other options include Honda Preludes, S2000s & other stuff by Honda. The S2000 actually holds the record for most horsepower per liter of displacement in a production piston engine since it makes 240hp from 2 liters and it still maintains fairly respectable fuel economy.

If you can though you may as well buy two cars since a Honda Civic VX Hatchback can get 55mpg and most if not all of the cars on my list come up with half that so even if you paid twice as much for car insurance you'd pay half as much for gas so the savings would be there. I'd still rather have a turbo V6 or I6 than a V8 though. A 2000 or so Trans Am with ram air gets 325hp while a 300ZX gets 300hp and a Toyota Supra gets 320hp. Both get better gas mileage.
