  6. Good for you! You can't go wrong with the classics.

The Universal Studios monsters are an excellent place to start for period horror movies. Also, the Hammer studios remakes of the 1950's

    Bringing Up Baby

    Arsenic and Old Lace--excellent

The Court Jester--or pretty much anything starring Danny Kaye

    Doctor Cyclops--excellent special effects. Recommended.

    Mighty Joe Young.

Laughter in Paradise--if you can find it. Just delightful.

The Big Sleep--Anything with Bogart is a safe bet.

    The Manchurian Candidate

    Harvey

You Can't Take It With You

    The Trouble With Harry--very funny

Vertigo--or anything from Hitchcock starring James Stewart

    I Walked With A Zombie

The Day the Earth Stood Still

    The Cat People

    Night of the Hunter--a masterpiece.

    Forbidden Planet--again, a masterpiece.

    Seven Samurai

    Them--giant bugs rule!

    Night at the roxbury (hysterical)

    Ace ventura

Get Carter ( original , not the Stallone remake )

Night of the Living Dead ( also, the original )

Cannibal the Musical ( funniest movie ever , made by Trey Parker )

    Easy Rider

    THX1138

The Killer and Hard Boiled ( both early John Woo action films)

    Dead and Breakfast (very funny)

    Death Race 2000

    Bananas

  9. His Girl Friday (1940) is Howard Hawks' speedy and hysterically funny, modern-style screwball comedy, and one of the best examples of its kind in film history. Although it has an 92-minute running time, the breath-taking, fast-paced film has more than enough dialogue for a 3-hour movie. The film marked the beginning of a number of screwball comedies in the 1940s that emphasized the conflict for women in deciding between love/marriage and professional careers.

"Made For Each Other" Starring Carole Lombard and Jimmy Stewart

A young lawyer meets and marries a girl after knowing her one day. Then he takes the bride to meet the mother who disapproves of the marriage. 1939

Pot 'O Gold" Starring Jimmy Stewart and Paulette Goddard

It's rare to see a musical comedy which allows an actor of Jimmy Stewart's caliber to exploit his charismatic screen persona, but POT O' GOLD fits this bill. Stewart plays Jimmy Haskell, the owner of a struggling music store whose financial predicament forces him to go into business with his uncle C.J. (Charles Winninger). C.J. can't stand modern music, but his prosperous health food company sponsors Haskell's Happiness Program, a popular weekly music program on the radio. C.J. is engaged in an ongoing feud with Mom McCorkle's boarding house because of the consistent noise emanating from the band of Horace Heidt, which resides there. When Jimmy falls for Molly McCorkle (Paulette Goddard), one of the band's singers, and takes up residence at Mom McCorkle's, his situation with both Molly and his uncle becomes dangerous--Molly doesn't know Jimmy is a Haskell, and C.J. doesn't know Jimmy is lobbing tomatoes at him on behalf of the band. The romantic moments between Stewart and Goddard are excellent as are the songs, which include A knife, a fork, and a spoon, When Jonny toots his horn, and Do you believe in fairy tales?

Beat The Devil Starring Humphrey Bogart, Jennifer Jones, and Gina Lollobrigida

John Huston and Truman Capote co-wrote the screenplay while working on location. A whimsical parody of The Maltese Falcon and other 1940's detective movies in which Bogart so often starred (and Huston directed).Tells of the exploits of a group of travelers on a steamboat who each hopes to carry off a huge swindle in the uranium fields of Northern Africa.  This film helps to define the genre of spy movie spoofs.

House on Haunted Hill Starring Vincent Price Region Free DVD Full Length Movie

My Favorite Brunette Starring Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour

Legendary funnyman Bob Hope plays a baby photographer who gets mixed up with gangsters in this bubbly slapstick comedy-drama. Ronnie Jackson (Hope) wants nothing more than to step into the gumshoes of office mate Sam McCloud (film noir veteran Alan Ladd), a private investigator who runs his own detective agency. Jackson gets his big break when a mysterious femme fatale (Dorothy Lamour) strolls into his office and, mistaking him for McCloud, asks for help with her uncle's kidnapping. Jackson plays along with the detective role but is soon in way over his head as he becomes embroiled in a dangerous (and comic!) mystery. This spoof of the hardboiled detective genre also features horror legends Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney as Hope's villainous foils.
