  6. When I played volleyball back in high school I used to be a real head case, until some coaches taught me the right mindset to stay positive. Now that I have these tips in mind, I don't go into a slump after one bad pass or hit.

Before the game and after every single play, slap your teammates' hands. This is required in volleyball to show your teammates' that you support them and they will in turn show you that they support you.

Clear your mind before every single play. This can be done in a variety of ways, but make sure you have a routine. I tug on my shorts every time I was in serve receive, and when I am at the net, I touch the bottom of the net. Other popular ways of "getting in the zone" are to wipe off the bottom of your shoes and pull up on the sleeves of your shirt.

Don't get down on yourself and stay positive. If you just messed up, be confident the next play you're gonna pass a rock or you're gonna get a kill.

Just in case I misunderstood the question, if you are having trouble getting psyched up for the game, make sure your team has a warm up tape to get yourselves pumped before a game. Make sure you jump around and get excited, too. Finally, keep it in your mind that every time you go up for a spike or a block, the ball is gonna go down on their side.

    Best of luck!

  7. 1. ignore the ref: if the ref makes a bad call in your opinion, let it go just get the next one.

    2. be yourself: trying to be someone who you aren't is bad for your play.

    3. get into a quick huddle between each point, even if you lose the point.

    4. don't get down on yourself, or your team

    5. play to win: don't play down to the other teams level

    6. stay positive: crack jokes, congratulate teammates, have fun
