  1. be really loud and aggresive. show the coach you can be a team leader. for setting, i suggest holding the ball above your head in a setting position. then try setting against the wall. serving is tough but try tossing the ball with two hands. spot with your left (if you are a righty, opposite if your a lefty)and reach up and snap your wrist. asking the coach for extra assistance will show him or her how bad you want it... good luck!

  2. Overhand serving is a problem for a lot of people.

Practice your toss.  If you are right handed, stand with your left foot forward.  Toss the ball in front of your right shoulder.  Let it hit the floor.  Do 100 tosses without hitting the ball.   Try to get the ball 2 to 3 feet above where you can reach.  Try to get the ball landing on the same spot on the floor.

Keep your wirst firm.  Hit the ball with your palm.  Keep your eye on the ball.  Try not to step.  If you want to step, plant your right foot and take a little step with your left foot.  Do not let your right foot move forward.

Start at the 3 meter line.  (10 foot line)  Serve the  ball over the net.  Serve it over the net 5 times.  Take one step back.  Serve it over 5 times.  Take one step back.  Same thing until you are standing at the serving line.

The main problems with the overhand serve are the bad toss, improper contact, stepping with the right foot and lack of confidence.  Try the above steps and you should be able to get your serve over regularly.

  3. When you are first starting out serving overhand take your time and don't try to kill the ball.

Try to give it a little bit of backspin so it wants to fall after it gets over the net.

It takes a little practice to get it right. And watch your fingers, hit it with your palm.

    Added:

Don't jump when you go to hit it. Stay planted on the ground so you still control your movement and power.

  4. Haha we have the same problems.

    Serving

*I think the coach will work with you on getting your overhand serve.  I made it to the team with my underhand serve.

*In the mean time you need to study the other side of the court and know where the weak spot is.  Placement is important so place the ball in the other team's weak spot.

*Try throwing a volleyball like your pitching a baseball.  This will help you with overhand serves.

    Setting

*Make sure index fingers and your thumbs make a diamond shaped.

*Then the other fingers should be the same distance from each other around the ball.

*Try practicing by setting the ball against the wall.

*Ask somebody to toss you the ball and pretend to set the ball but instead hit the ball with your forehead.  It should hit it if not then you are doing it wrong.

    Passing

    *Hustle.

*Don't be afraid to dive for the balls.

    Hitting

    *Know your aproach.

*If your right handed its left foot(swinging your arms forward at the same time), then right(swinging your arms backwards at the same time), then feet together, jump using your arms for force to go up.

    *Remember to snap your wrist.

    Other

    *Listen.

    *Be alert.

    *Follow directions.

*Don't be afraid to ask questions or advices or ask them if you think you're doing something wrong.

I'm sure they'll work with you if you ask.  Ask them about your hitting approach and your setting.  Always have a good attitude.  Good luck :]

  5. Well first of all you want to try your hardest in tryouts and for serving i was like that because i messed up my shoulder but now i am better because you just don't think about it too much you just have to get the ball at the highest point you can and don't forget to call things.

  6. Always keep your eyes on the ball and NEVER let it drop that lets other people down and decreases your chances in making the team. And for your overhand serving problem just practice all the time. When you are outside with your friends have one of them stand up and put there arms up to be the net and keep practicing! You will get!
