my moms best friend did a theme one year it was like looking down into a forest from the sky he got lots of plastic deers and laid them down in the tree and had a huge bow that sweeped down onto the floor it was extremely cool.

I love silver and blue, but if your a sports fan you can always go with your teams colors. They even sell team ornaments at some sports stores. My cousin always does her tree in all white lights and snowmen ornaments and it looks beautiful. Bottom line is do whatever colors you like and keep the theme through out the tree and house decorations, no matter what you do it will look good!

You could do a candy theme.  You could buy the garland that looks like candy to wrap around the tree.  Buy a bunch of candy canes and other hard candies to also put on it.  For the hard candies place a hook trough the one end of the wrapper to hang it.  for the tree topper you cold buy striped ribbon and make it look like hard tack candy or a fake gingerbread man.  The stores also sale a lot of different fake candy decorations.          A more traditional theme you could do is pick two colors that you like and do the tree in nothing but those to colors.
