  1. If you are still able to play under the pain, by the sounds of it you have a first-degree strain in one or more of the many muscles in your upper arm or if the pain continues down into your side you latissimus dorsi.

The best treatment for a strain is to rest.  Ice the affected area if it swells at all.  If you take a few days off all major exercise and just stick to your daily routine and some light stretching you'll heal in no time.

  2. If you are experiencing pain on your left side of your torso (chest/upper abdomen) you probably strained or pulled your lat muscle. This is typical in volleyball especially on the side that you hit with. You need to take it easy for a little bit and continue icing couple times a day. More rest the better. Do light stretches as well, and don't over strain it again by stretching too much.

Pull ups increase your strength around that area as well as lat pull-downs. Good Luck!

  3. I don`t know what it is, but I suggest you stretch before and wait till it gets better then you can go out there again.

  4. Stretch out a lot before you start to practice

  5. If it is in your shoulder you are probably hitting the ball when it is directly above you or even worse, behind your head.  This is an unnatural movement for the shoulder.  You should hit it when it is in front of you.  This is politically incorrect but, I was taught by professional vb players that when your hand touches the ball for a spike or serve your arm should look like your doing the Heil Hitler salutes that the n**i's used to do.  Just remember to keep the ball out in front of you.
