  1. If you are in North America, the Toyota Prius would be the one, with a fuel consumption of 4.2 litres of gasoline per 100km, followed by the Honda Civic Hybrid. Airconditioning and top safety standards are a given in these cars.

In Europe, the UK, and Japan, you can also get a car called the Toyota Aygo, which gets the same gas mileage as the Prius without even being a hybrid.

On top of that, in Europe you can get the following three cars, which are quite officially the world's most fuel-efficient:

VW Lupo 3L (not in production anymore, but available used), consumes 3 litres of diesel fuel per 100km.

MCC Smart CDi (a Diesel version of the Smart car), consumes 3.4 litres of diesel fuel per 100km.

Audi A2 TDi 3L (not in production anymore, but available on the used car market), consumes 3 litres of diesel fuel per 100km.

As a rule of thumb, the lighter a car is, and the smaller its engine displacement is, the more fuel efficient it may be. Diesels are more efficient than gasoline versions.

  2. Toyota has the best mileage hybrid then Honda. Other one for economy is the Ford Escape. Safety! next in line for economy AND SAFETY is the Ford Focus.  Not  going into details of other country's when you noted you are in the USA.

If any more of details you would like to ask then please ask me.

  3. Which car consumes the least gas?

    Too many variables.

Do you only drive around town or do you drive on the highway every day?

Do you need AC, power steering, 2 seats, 4 seats, minivan, etc?

Typically, smaller engined cars get better fuel economy. Cars lke 3 and 4 cylinders, with EFi, without AC and without power steering are efficient, however, if you ever do high speed driving, then they will use more fuel and wear out faster.

  4. I'd say the Toyota Yaris. Hybrids will die while in motion.
