Hey I am on the computer and I am indeed a skateboarder. I have my tony hawk t-shirt and shoes on, so thats proof. I want to know what skateboarding skills will help me my first try. I am going to go outside and try after lunch, going down my snow-covered driveway. If i can get a good answer in the next 10 minutes, it will automatically be best answer.

I know how to do the following:

Ollie

Shove-It (still need practice)

Manual

Pivot (turn on board in 180 degree rotation, in a manual position)

Please tell me which of these are good skills to have

THANKS!!!

I would also like any tips you have for a beginner. Thank you once again!!

  1. some people say they are different, but some tecniuqs are the same.

    i did skateboard.

dont have any time no moree

  2. skateboarding will help because the moves you make side to side & how to keep your balance. it has to help on a snowboard!

  3. Yes skateboarding skills will help.  Knowing how to balance on a moving object is a great help. Your tricks will not transfer well, except the ollie which is done different.  If you skate vert, pools or longboard, these skills will be more transferable, especially powersliding.  Most skaters can learn the basics in about an hour.

I'd recommend wearing pads and a helmet the first time around, especially hip and knee.  Snowboard pads are soft and are worn under the clothes.  remember you can't bail off a snowboard.  You can wear a skate helmet if you don;t have a snowboard one.

  4. sometimes it will help it all depends a lot of people say it totally different but some think its the same i think they are totally different though because i do both

  5. Skateboarding and snowboarding are the same in one respect....the way you stand on the board (goofy or regular footed).

    Otherwise, they're COMPLETELY different.

None of the "skills" you mentioned will translate to the snowboard, save for your ability to balance with one foot in front of the other.

Think about it...the skills you mentioned all require repositioning your feet on your skateboard....something you CAN'T DO when you're strapped to a snowboard.

And, as far as tips for a beginner go; take a lesson.  Preferably a lesson from a REAL snowboard instructor...not one of your friends.

  6. YES. Once you get your edges under control and you can turn and stuff, skating will really help your style. When i started skating rails and transitions is when it really started to influence my riding.

  7. Usually any student that I have that knows how to skateboard really well will pick up the basics of snowboarding very quickly - like in a couple of days.

The tricks are a little different though - they are quite a bit different on a snowboard so the skateboarding doesn't help as much.

    Good Luck

  8. I'd just start out with balance first. When you get that down, then you should start out with tricks. Manuals won't do much, seeing how the board is flat. Ollies would be pretty fun. Start out with easier tricks, than move on to harder tricks.

I wouldn't recommend any tricks where you have to take your feet off the board. For safety reasons.

And along with what Silver said, most tricks you attempt to do that require to reposition your feet won't do you any good. I would just stick to reg. snowboarding.

  9. Skateboarding might help with balance.Alot of snowboarders skateboard.Skateboarding is very similiar to snowboarding so it will be helpful.
