  1. X  think of a number(any)

    2X add it with the same number ?(tht is the number u just thought)

    2X +24 now add it with 24.

    X + 12 now divide by 2.

    12 finally subtract it frm the number u thought of at first.

  2. And if you change the number to 50 in the middle then you are left with 25.

    All you are doing is putting a number in at the start and doubliing it.  By halving you remove one of the two numbers and the last instruction takes the second one away, leaving half of the number in the middle.

    If the number you have put in is n and the number in the middle is x,then it looks like this

    (2n + x)/2 - n == x/2

    Powerful stuff, algebra

  3. ya my answer is 12 and it is also my lucky no.

  4. yeah it's 12...good maths problem

  5. Actually, the ones who GOT the answer as 12 are bad mathers.  Why?  Because your last step says to subtract it FROM the number you thought of first.  So...

    Think of a number {X}

    Add it to the number just thought of {X+X=2X}

    Add 24 {2X + 24}

    Divide by 2 {(2X + 24)/2 = X + 12}

    Subtract it FROM the number first thought of [X - (X + 12)] = -12

  6. 12 is my lucky number...

  7. its just a more 'round the houses' way of saying : think of a number, subtract that number then add 12

  8. dnt blv u wasted 5 points in such a non-working strategy....  well my ans was 19..btr luck nxt time.

  9. lol..its a very easy technique.At first think that the number is X.Now by adding another X with that it becomes 2X.Add 24.It becomes 2X+24.by dividing it with 2 it then becomes X+12.So by subtracting it from X there will be always 12....hope you all got it ! !

  10. LOL...my answer is 12.16.

    I started with 1.2 (well you did say any number, you didn't say a whole number)

    xD

  11. It din't work my friend

  12. so what you want to convey

  13. WTF crazy

  14. pink_sushii, this will always work, even with 1.2

    Take 1.2 and add it to itself

    1.2 + 1.2 = 2.4

    Now add 24

    2.4 + 24 = 26.4

    Now divide by 2

    26.4 / 2 = 13.2

    Finally subtract original number (1.2)

    13.2 - 1.2 = 12

    Algebraically:

    Take a number and add it to itself

    X + X = 2X

    Now add 24

    2X + 24

    Now divide by 2

    (2X + 24) / 2 = X + 12

    Finally subtract original number (X)

    X + 12 - X = 12

  15. what was that its work!!! i pic up number 2:)

  16. Not surprising. the steps are

    x

    2x(=x+x)

    2x+24

    x+12

    12. It has to be. What's so great in it?

    Great are those who do not get it !!!
