Question:

Hey kids and high handicappers, isn't Rocco proof that you don't have it drive it 300 yards?

Please stop posting questions about how to hit it longer and playing from the tips all the time.

It makes five hour rounds for the rest of us.

Play from the WHITES and break 80.

I drive it 240-250 on average (counting all my bad drives) and shoot scratch golf.

  1. Have to agree with you.  Can't count how many times I've said that golf is not about how far you can hit the ball.....it's about how many times you hit it.

  2. Zack Johnson won the masters a yr ago and laid up on all par 5s never went for it. Not a long hitter. Consistancy and accuracy will beat power against almost anyone except Tiger.

  3. Long drives are like penises, you don't have to have a big one to have good s*x, but they sure are impressive.

  4. Exactly!

On a modest 400 yard, Par 4, if you drive the ball 250 yards, that leaves you with a 150 yard 7 iron to the green.

Take a 550 yard Par 5 hole for example:

250 yard drive - 300 to the green.

You can then hit two 7 irons to the green and still get your GIR and putt for birdie... or you can get aggressive and hit your second shot with a longer club and wedge it up for your third shot..

The point is; a 250 yard drive is not a "weak" drive.  Its all about course management and playing your own game.

  5. I think you can look to Rocco as an example of not hitting 300+ yards and still be great.  my only contention with your question is that Rocco had a chance to win, but didn't.  besides hitting the ball longer (and more accurate) off the tee can't be bad for one's game.  I usually always play from the tips at the courses I play, sure the whites are there, but on the muni courses I've played there isn't much difference playing from the tips (usually blue tees where I live) and the whites, and overall the difference is about 500 yards.

  6. I have to agree with you. The average golfer doesn't hit the ball more than 200 yards. Why play from the back tees?

Rocco is proof that you drive for show. The game is won and lost on the short game.
