  1. I browsed the web and found their website http://www.airsafetyacademy.com/history....

Straight away I found out that the founder of this school is also the same person who founded Westwind Academy in Deer Valley.

I went to Westwind (the one which later on became Pan Am) years ago, and although I have to admit that the school's quality was good, but the "management" was really on the greedy side. Whatever hours written on the catalogue are the MINIMUM REQUIRED, but almost guaranteed you will exceed those hours (thus pay more money). One factor was that before getting FAA checkrides, you will need to do many PRE-CHECKRIDE checks. Plus their rental rates are higher than other schools in the area.

I can't say that Air Safety has the same scheme but to give you a heads-up. So shop-around for more schools, so you have more option. My advise is, you as a foreigner, avoid to pay too much deposit upfront. If you have to prepay the flying hours, try to pay in 10-hours block max, so if you decided to bail-out, it'll be easier to settle the account with the school.

Other thing, for basic flight training, Arizona and Nevada are good place to do, because of their good weather almost all year-round, and for actual instrument training, California is only a couple of hours flight away.

  2. Be prepared for 115 degree days (46-47C) in July and August. Winters aren't so bad. They make you wear these goofy airline uniforms with ties, epaulettes, stripes and the works. (For primary flight training? C'mon get real!)

You'll be sharing the airspace with Luke AFB just to the west. Germans, British, and Taiwanese pilots will be training at Goodyear Airport to the south. On a good day it'll be really busy with those students as well as the ones from Deer Vally, Scottsdale, Falcon, and Chandler.

Drink lots of water. You'll be sweating a LOT!
