  1. wetlands are natural filters!

  2. Try bioremediation. In many places old mines have developed populations of plants that are able to absorb pollutants without sustaining damage. There are many environmental companies which sell these plants. They are sown on polluted ground, they absorb the pollutant and then they can be cut down and burnt to extract the pollutant in a pure form.

  3. Wet lands are protected by Federal law. If you know of a wetland that has been polluted and you don't think anyone knows about it, get on the phone. Generally once the source is found and stopped, much will quickly return to normal. The problem is that once an area is receiving pollution it will affect everything downstream all the way to, an including, the ocean. If it does not have an out to the sea, for sure it is in the system of drinking water sources, probably private as town water is tested regularly by law. What is the source of the pollution and what is the pollutant? That is a crucial question? Do the town, county, or state know of the problem? (get on the phone and ask, it's OK to ask)
