  1. Look, with a flash light in the back of your throat, at the openings where your tonsils are. Try to make sounds or grunts, I don't know how to explain this to you but just try to get them to open some so you can see down in them. Do you see white to greenish kernals? If so these are either food that has gotten in there and rotted ( sorry) or sinus drainage that has dried and it will make your breath smell really bad. Sometimes you cough these things out and they smell gross.

If you do see some, try real hard to clear your throat. If you have some tool that you can reach this area ( long cotton swab, tounge depressor etc) that you can rake it out you will feel better about your breath and talking to people. Also use listerine as a gargle.

  2. Through illness, tonsils can become 'cratered'.  This allows bits of food to become lodged in them and spoil.  'Had the same for years!  Sometimes just clearing my throat could force these food bits into my mouth.  They were white/ivory colored and had a terrible odor to them.  I didn't do anything to stop them.  They just stopped by themselves.

There is also a bacteria that forms in the mouth, the back of the mouth and tongue that causes the same problem.

I'd make a trip to the dentist to find out just what is really causing the halitosis.
