  1. What kind of camp? Overnight? Outdoors?

    Here are some suggestions:

Church camps usually have pretty strict rules regarding dress code, so make sure she packs according to the rules. Sunscreen, insect repellent, toiletries, Bible, Snacks, fun things to do on down time (cards, book, etc.), Pillow.

  2. the people organising the camp should be able to give you a kit list for clothing etc, and tell you what they expect in terms of sweets, treats and pocket money, so ask them.

most organisations are quite strict about what they do or don't want children to bring as it creates tension in the group if some children have much more than others.  they will probably also have a policy on electronics such as music players, mobile phones etc as well.

aside from this there are things that are always good to bring:

books, particularly short story/ghost story/joke books that can be read aloud in short chunks to fill quiet moments or journeys.

a small musical instrument such as a recorder can sometimes be quite good as well - particularly if supplied with a basic how-to-play book the children can follow.

games which can be shared are always good: a tennis ball, a frisbee or some juggling balls can provide hours of amusement.

coloured embroidery threads always work well for groups of girls, who will spend hours tying them into friendship bands and jewellery, and they can also be used to label and identify things such as cups, toothbrushes or cutlery, and can be woven into shoelaces etc.

a small cuddly toy is also good for nighttime even for children who aren't normally homesick, especially if it's her first time away from home.  i'd also put in some writing paper and stamped addressed envelopes so that she can write to you if she's feeling homesick or lonely, and you should try and write to her (though for such a short camp you might want to post the letter the day she leaves or even the day before to make sure she gets it)

coloured pencils or pens and a drawing pad are always good to have - but if they will be sleeping in tents i'd put the paper into a plastic folder to keep it dry.

a cheap inflatable beach ball or beach football can also be quite good to have but these are not really suitable for camps where the weather will be windy - for windy camps maybe you could include a kite instead.

if the people taking her away don't supply a kit list, then pack enough clothes (preferably ones you don't mind if they get stained/dirty etc) for four days and a couple of extras e.g. a nice skirt or party outfit for dressing up, a couple of extra warm jumpers etc.  extras of underwear and socks are also essential - i usually recommend at least 3 spares of each.  she will also need a towel, soap, toothbrush & paste, hairbrush etc, and may need swimming costume.

for outdoor camps, good waterproofs (jacket AND trousers) and hiking shoes/boots are absolutely essential for all children and wellingtons are necessary for the under-12s and useful for older kids.  insect repellent, a torch and sunscreen are essential for outdoor camps and i'd also recommend both a sunhat and a warm hat for colder days - but this depends on whereabouts in the world you are and what the weather's like.

for more indoors based activities, you might want to pack an old shirt or something for painting in and some sports clothes for games/dancing activities.  since it's unlikely the children will be kept indoors for the entire camp even if they have the facilities for it, i'd also pack sunscreen for an indoor camp.

you will need to find out if she's expected to supply her own tent, sleeping bag, cutlery & plates etc.

i'm a bit surprised that you haven't had a list of items to bring from the camp organisers.  you should definitely talk to them about what's expected and required - after all, you're trusting them to take care of your child.  chatting to them about what sorts of activities will be offered to your child, how much freedom and free time will be allowed, whether there will be opportunities for spending pocket money etc will give you a much better idea of what she needs to take.  they will almost certainly have dealt with hundreds of similar enquiries from other parents so you needn't hesitate to do this.

  3. suntan lotion a radio sum condums and a cellphone

  4. make sure she brings enough clothes ,something warm long sleeves, pants,, and something for when its hot, maybe some cards or something to read game boy, what ever travel games she likes, if it rains, tell her to try not to stay in the sun to long and get burned.suntan lontion. something to swim with , mask float toys,, if there's swiming which there prob is,if they are providing all the food, its still good she brings some snacks. oh make sure she has sandles and shoes, shoes can be a big help,, best of luck, oh and bug spy!!,,lol

  5. My kids just came back from church camp last night.

Here's what I always have them bring:

    ~Sunscreen

    ~Money for snack bar

~Extra changes of clothes (not just the exact amount)

    ~Bible

~Shower Shoes ( flip flops will do-the shower floors are NASTY!)

~A laundry net/bag to put her dirty laundry in as she uses it.  That way her clean clothes won't be mixed with the dirty stuff

~Shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush,soap...the camp won't supply these things.

~A towel for shower and swimming (tell her to hang it over the top bunk's rail to dry every time she uses it)

~A disposable camera so she can take pictures of all her friends

    ****JUST REMEMBERED****

I have found it useful to pack my child's clothing in  Ziploc bags.  I would label one bag Monday and put one whole  outfit (including socks and underwear) in that bag.  I did the same for every day of the week.  When he was changing at the end of the day, he put his dirty laundry im the  laundry bag he had  brought, and put the Ziploc bag back into the suitcase.  We reused the bags for other things at home.

This helped my child to not wear all of his clothes in two days.  It also helped him to not lose anything due to his suitcase being a mess.

  6. Depends on how old she is.  Certainly clothing, night wear, brushes and hair shampoo, deorderants,  find out if washer/dryers are available. Three nights, four days, at 11, four pair of pants,(two of which can be shorts) four shirts, (two of which can be T shirts) Swim wear,

Socks, Hiking shoes, flipflops for shower, a towel for swimming, bug spray, sunscreen, lip screen, a Baseball cap or floppy hat, long sleeved sweat shirt for evenings, maybe sweatpants, Are there church services? IF so a nice pants and blouse would be good.

Travel alarm clock.  trail mix, see what snacks are available there and what is allowed.  All medical information and needed equipment, ie if your daughter is a diabetic she needs her meds.

Her music, maybe a notebook, magazines, a pen,her own Bible,   and envelopes and stamps to write home...They may not let her bring her phone with her. ASK.

  7. They should have given you a list - but here are some suggestions, as I have been to week long church camps for years growing up...

*Something from home that comforts her if she experiences homesickness*

    a disposable camera!

    Any medication she requires

    Sleeping bag & pillow

    Music like an MP3 player

    Deck of cards

    Stationary, pen and stamped envelopes

    Bug Spray

    Sunscreen

Swimsuit & 2 towels (if swimming is available)

    Jacket

Clothing for warm and cooler weather (just in case)

Bag with Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, wash cloths, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairdryer or any other appliances.

Ziplock plastic bags to keep any wet items in from the day she comes back. Inform her to try to hang wet items up to dry(towels, wach cloth, swimsuit, etc...) before packing them.

Keep it simple, but make sure she has everything she needs for everyday. You may want to include some granola bars or something in case she really doesn't care for the food.

    Hope she has fun!

Shoes - both sneakers and flip flops!
