The Bavarian manager claims that his side had a positive campaign last year, but insists that Dortmund were certainly better.
Borussia Dortmund secured the Bundesliga title for the second consecutive season last term and pipped Bayern Munich, who ended up in second place. The defending champions accumulated a record 81 points at the end of the season
which is a record.
Jupp Heynckes believes that his side was impressive in the last season and admitted that the team’s positives displays were overshadowed by Dortmund’s classy campaign. He added that the Reds reached the finals of UEFA Champions
League and DFB-Pokal, but were unlucky to put their hands on any trophy.
The manager stressed that the stats show that Bayern had a vastly improved season from the 2009-10 season, when the team secured the double. He admitted that the only difference was that Dortmund also showed a massive improvement
in their form.
“Of course we know that when you finish runners-up in three competitions, you have got to change something. But we got 73 points - in 2010, 70 were enough for us to win the league. We had a better goal difference, it's just the
other team were better than us and that was our problem,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician stated that all that matters nowadays is winning titles, no matter how you win them. He insisted that teams are not even given credit if they have played well as the only proof of a successful season is silverware.
“In the second half of the season, we picked up three points more than we did in the first half of the season, when we were three points clear at the top of the table. All of that doesn't count for anything because all that counts
today is whether you win any titles,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich are currently on their Asian Tour in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 to prepare for the new campaign. The team will play their first game of the league season against Greuther
Furth on Friday, August 24.
