The Bayern Munich manager insisted that Matthias Sammer’s recent criticism on the team’s performance against Werder Bremen was exaggerated.
DFB’s former technical director, Matthias Sammer, had blasted his team’s performance after the 2-0 win over Werder Bremen this past weekend. The former footballer claimed that Bayern showed no determination and were poor on the
pitch against the River Islanders.
Uli Hoeness, Bavarian giants’ president, also supported Sammer’s comments and admitted that the team will have to work hard to win the title at the end of the season.
Jupp Heynckes stated that he is in total disagreement with the sporting director, and stressed that Sammer should not have publicly criticised the team as it would affect the players’ confidence for the future games.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss claimed that the sporting director’s comments were not constructive and seemed exaggerated. He said that the club has been performing brilliantly from the start of the campaign, and saw no reason
for the chief to blast his side’s display considering the Reds won the fixture with a 2-0 scoreline.
“I did not agree with the tone of Sammer's criticism and with the way he went public with it, and I have told him how I feel about that. It is important that your criticism is constructive. It has to be valid and well-reasoned
in order to help people. Criticism should not be excessive and I believe that's the case here. He exaggerated,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Heynckes stated that he has already talked to Sammer regarding the matter and added that the issue has been cleared between the two parties. The manager added that the criticism could have been internal rather than speaking out
in public about how your team played.
“I also think he should have voiced his concerns internally rather than go public with it,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the ongoing season earlier this week when they were downed by BATE Borisov by 3-1 scoreline at the Dynamo Stadium in Minsk. The Allianz Arena outfit will take on Hoffenheim in their
next league clash at home.
