Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has insisted that his side will have to improve and have to be sharp if they want to challenge for the honours this season.
The former Bayer Leverkusen manager admitted that there is still room for improvement as the team did not play at the full potential in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 this weekend. The boss rued missed chances in the match and
stated that the finishing could have been far better from the attackers.
The Bavarian giants secured their 11th win of the season against VfB Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena to reclaim their place at the top of the Bundesliga standings table. They are now three points clear of the nearest
competitor, Borussia Dortmund, who are firmly placed in second place with 31 points.
The manager insisted that the team showed the urge to win right from the start and recovered from an early setback with a Mario Gomez goal. The home side had many chances to take the lead but Bayern were lucky enough to get a second
goal in the second-half after wasting enough opportunities.
Heynckes admitted that the game should have been killed early but the side’s failure to capitalise on the chances made it tough in the end.
“You could see that we really wanted to win, especially in the first half, but we didn't manage to get the extra goals to kill the game off and they put us under pressure, which shouldn't have happened,” the tactician was quoted
as saying in an interview.
The boss added that in the end it was a very important victory for his side and played down reports that the sending off was vital in Bayern’s win. He insisted that the Bavarians were dominant right from the beginning and would
have won in any case.
“It was a very important win for us and I don't think the sending off was decisive, as we were the better team when it was eleven against eleven,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich are one of the favourites to win the Bundesliga this season with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke.
