The Bayern Munich manager has insisted that his team put in a spirited performance against Die Knappen and is happy with the result.

Jupp Heynckes admitted that his team put in a bravura performance against their rivals and is ecstatic with all three points at the end of the day. He claimed that both teams had their chances in the first-half and admitted that
the home side dominated possession before the interval.
However, the manager hailed his side’s character in the second-half and heaped praise on the players for playing out a well deserved win. The former Bayer Leverkusen boss stated that Bayern deserved to win the game and is keen
to maintain the consistency in the remaining course of the season also.
“It was a very intense performance from both teams, especially in the first half, when Schalke matched us and it was end-to-end at times. We showed all our class in the second half, we were extremely composed, and at the end of
the day we deserved the win. It’s nice we now have a five-point advantage [over Dortmund]. But the championship is a 34-game marathon,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned his side against complacency and stressed that the team cannot afford to be over confident at any stage of the campaign.
“We cannot allow euphoria. Last season, we were eight points clear of Dortmund [at one point], and we know how it all ended,” he concluded.
