The Bayern Munich manager has heaped praise on the opposition for their impressive play and is disappointed with his side’s display.
The Reds suffered their first defeat of the season as they were downed by a spirited BATE Borisov in the UEFA Champions League clash at the Dynamo Stadium in Minsk. The hosts secured all three points with a thumping 3-1 win over
last year’s European finalists and are now leading the group with two wins from two games.
Jupp Heynckes’ team were looking for a tenth straight win this season which would have been a club record also, but the side failed to match their previous performances and were outshined by the impressive Belarusian outfit.
The tactician claimed that BATE put in a very impressive performance against his team and praised the opposition for the win. He insisted that the home side made sure that Bayern do not create enough chances by giving an exceptional
defensive performance.
Heynckes expressed his disappointed on the way his side played and lamented the missed opportunities throughout the course of the game. He admitted that the team had to take the 1-0 lead in order to put the opposition under pressure.
“This is a very organised team, especially on the defensive, which they have proved again today. And above all, they have fought selflessly, as we have done. In a game like this you have to take the 1-0 lead. Thus, the opponent
will come from being defensive, and you can counter,” the former Bayer Leverkusen manager was quoted as saying in an interview.
