  1. Well, because of your age and depending on your level of education & employment experience...its really 50/50!

SS believes that if you are under the age of 50, have been to college, there is some type of job in the US that you should be able to do. It doesn't matter if that type of job is not in your city or state. If a job exist in the US of A, and they feel you can or should be able to do it, they will say that you are not totally and permanently disabled.

Everyone that I know, it took 3-6 years to get approved. I am so sorry to put a burden like this on you, but its the truth. They have DDD, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, severe RA and other conditions or a combination of any of the above and are all older than you, and they still had quit a time getting approved.

Don't rely on just the state doctor. Make sure you have a copy of ALL of your own doctors medical records, test, reports. Some state docs will lie like a dog, some will be helpful. When you go, don't be cherry, be sad(act depressed), SS believes that if you can smile and/or laugh, you must not be in that much pain. Dress down, way down...look almost homeless. Like you really, really didn't feel like getting out of bed(no neatly ironed clothes, be wrinkled). No cologne, no fancy hairdo, don't shave..of course brush your teeth. You get my drift. SS wants you to LOOK like your in pain and sick.

If you are not approved on the first go round(I think 72% are not approved), then do your reconsideration WITH A LAWYER!! Do not get a lawyer before this time. Always, always, always, do your reconsideration with the help of an SS specialty lawyer. You have 60 days to do your reconsideration paperwork..use this time to "consult" with a couple of lawyers about your case. Keep in mind, there is a set fee for SS cases. Here in South Carolina it is 25% or $5600 dollars, which ever is the lesser from your back payment from SS. Lawyers who specialize in SS cases get paid from your back pay from SS. Their cut is taken out before you get your cut.

In the mean time, apply for state assistance for you and your daughters. Both you & your daughters should qualify for Medicaid until your case is approved. Also, if need be, get Foodstamps, housing allowance and whatever other help maybe available in your area.

From now on, never put your whole name on here. Never put your real email address, and/or where you live and never put your daughters names on here either.

I am 42 years old, with DDD of my cervical & lumbar spine, OA all over my body, Fibromyalgia, Depression, and Thyroid disease. It took me 6 years to get aproved!!
