Hi, Big problems powering up

Question

Hi, Big problems powering up my daughters Advent 7201 laptop. Power lights come on. Fan works. Screen dead and I dont think the HDD is powering up. Cant hear anything and after say 5 or 10 mins, if i 'press-and-hold' to shut down it does so immediately.. Any advice you could offer would be gratefully received - especially before she starts college next week.
