Hi, Does anyone know how easy it is to find accommodation / jobs in Rome?

Question

I'm looking at moving to Rome from UK with my partner and we wanted to know how difficult / expensive it is going to be before we start to plan it in more detail.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

This would be easier for you assuming you're a UK citizen than it would be for someone from Canada, Australia, or the US. At least you don't need a work visa and you're higher on the priority list for jobs than a non EU citizen. My experience isn't directly applicable to your situation since I moved here with my job. I didn't have to find employment. Finding work may be problematic, especially if you're not fluent in Italian. The unemployment rate is relatively high - especially in the south. Employment opportunities vary depending on exactly what type of job you're looking for.

I can tell you that it is more expensive here compared to Denver, Colorado, but not outrageously so. When I first moved here, I was staying in a hotel, but found a suitable apartment within a week. My housing costs are roughly similar, but I have less house here for the money. Being smaller helps with energy costs for heating in the winter though. Since there is no air conditioning, I don't have the associated energy bills in the summer. How this relates to your costs in the UK depends on exactly where you live.

If you have a profession the you may want to look in your sector for a job. If you are looking to find any sort of work you will find it hard as there is a high rate of unemployment in Italy.Plus most jobs are badly paid.

If you want to move to Rome you would be better off finding jobs first then looking for accomodation, and whether you would be able to afford.

Plus there's the language, if you don't speak italian you will find it even harder finding work.

Sorry if i've put you off or made it seem impossibile, but unfortunately Italy is going through a bit of a 'crisis' at the moment and this is the reality!

I live in Rome and the cost of living here is very high - especially when compared to places like the UK. I can only compare it with London as I lived there for 3 years however I found you can find cheap or expensive place to live - cheap was going to be a little rough around the edges, but you got what you paid for. In Rome there is no cheap, only expeneive, and out of reach.

If you manage to find jobs then the wage is normally 1000euro a month, but this is for a good job. If you do not speak the language and have to wait tables or wash dishes then you will be paid very little. A studio flat, outside of the city walls and not at all special starts from about 800 euro per month excluding bills. If you want something spacious, or bigger then a box then you have to pay about 1000 a month which is a normal wage! Perhaps this helps you to understand other peoples comments which can sound negative but are true.

Try finding work before you come and then also look on the web for hostels who rent rooms out for weekly periods and longer. if you are on a budget this could be a good option, but do not come over unless you have money saved as the unemployment rate is high so you may need to allow yourself plenty of time.

There are no jobs in Rome. In Italy there are no job. There are no job for Italian too.
