Hi, English family moving to Listowel area of Kerry. How would we fit in with the locals.?

We are a family of Four ( Two teenage children) tired of life in England Looking for a better quality of life. Don't have any family in Ireland to answer any questions, so any help would be apreciated. My main worries are, would we fit in ok and make friends and what is the employmeny situation like?

Should be fine there is a good load of foreign nationals English people would have more in common with Irish people other foreign nationals so you should fit in just fine. you will make friends through the fact that your kids will be in school. Listowel has a very active Amateur Drama Society there is also hiking and Fishing clubs in the area I know that Tralee Killorglin and killarney have them I suppose Listowel has one too.

Employment .. Depends what you do there is a big Food factory in the town pubs and Shops will always be looking for staff and there will be some admin jobs too. Check out Fas.ie national employment  authooriity  In the jobs section.

people in Kerry are friendly by nature.there is alot to do in tralee you got the sports centre the aqua dome which alot of people go to its a straight run to tralee on the new line road.join classes and courses.their is the races in listowel and writers week you will find sites below very helpfull enjoy kerry is a beautiful place try the half way house which is half way between tralee and listowel they have great social nights you will find the people very warm.if you are looking for schools there is the presentation in listowel

I don't know if this is of any help, but I'm an American who spent a lot of time in Listowel during my two stays in Tralee.    I thought it was a beautiful, friendly town, but then I thought ALL of the Irish towns were beautiful and friendly  :)

The locals taught me the proper pronunciation, which I practiced incessantly:   Lis-too-hill   :)

Listowel is a lovely town, and the people are very friendly. There are lots of foreigners living there already, so you won't be too out of place.

I'm not sure about the employment situation, but Listowel is not far from Tralee.
