the website www.craigslist.org has regular updates of apartments for rent. also, www.viewit.ca. just select the options to montreal.

i recommend looking for a place in "plateau" -- it's a wonderful area in montreal, fairly close to downtown, with lots of great restaurants, shops, and parks nearby.

apartments in montreal are advertised as 3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5 1/2... etc. The kitchen counts as one room, the living room as one room, the bedroom as one room, and the bathroom as half a room. So a 3 1/2 apartment is a one bedroom; 4 1/2 is either a two bedroom, or a large one bedroom, etc...
