Question:

Hi, I'm looking to get a new car. I like the new mustangs alright. The base model v6 just seems cheap.

But the newer model GT is too expensive unless I was to get an older model of the GT. I also really like the C4 model of the Corvette. I recently saw a 1996 coupe for sale at $9995, and a 2005 Mustang is about $13,000. Which is a better deal and ultimately a better car in the long run. Keep in mind I take very good care and maintenance of my vehicles. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance

  1. Popular cars made in high production numbers only retain their value if you get all the upgrades, especially the bigger engine and performance package.

Because the less well-equipped models are plentiful, they drop precipitously in value, but come up again 20 years later when restorers take an interest in them.

You're spending an awful lot of money to get all show and no go.

Personally, I think you'll regret getting the de-tuned version.

  2. you ever try carmax i work at one why dont you give me a call tomorrow at 6 my number is 281-250-2872

  3. the 05 Stang is 9 yrs younger than the Vette, the newer the better and it's going to last you longer b/c you take good care of your vehicles, you said so.

  4. Check your insurance rates on both. Either would be fun,the mustang a little more practical. Be careful, many of this type of car has seen a serious wooping.

  5. Depends on what your using the car for.  If it is a second car for weekends I would get the vette, however if it is something you will use everyday I would get the 6 cyl.  Stang Convertible.  It gets at least 6 more miles to the gallon than the GT.  The muscle car days are just about over.

  6. Spring for the GT, it'll be quicker than any C4 (save for a Gran Sport or ZR1). It will hold it's value much better than the base 6 cylinder. Whoever said that the V6 gets 6 MPG better than the the V8 is wrong. The official MPG difference is 2 MPG, and in real world driving, it's even less.  The difference displacement between the V6 and V8 is not much, and the gearing is the same or almost the same (3.31 rear end for all V6s and automatic V8s. 3.55 rear end on all 05 manual GTs and some 06-09 manual GTs.
