Hi, I'm trying to find out if i can use split/broken pinto beans for feed in cattle.?

i know lectins and tannins are or could cause problems, has anyone used beans in feed and if so how to inhibit these.

  1. Split or broken pinto beans can be used in cattle rations; they are palatable and have excellent feed value. The split  beans have lower protein content than soybean meal, but because of higher fat, have higher net energy content. Use them as a protein supplement and not directly for feed and you should have a good feed there.


  2. you can use any kind of bean in feed for protien supplement as long as it is spilt or broken this keeps the bean from swelling as it would in normal germination in the cows stomach

  3. I wouldn't feed it at over 10% of the diet. Under this amount should be fine.
