Question:

Hi, I am going to the Gold Coast...?

I and my husband are going to the Gold Coast for a holiday and would like to gather some information beforehand. We are staying there for a week and the hotel is in Surfers Paradise.

Is it a good idea to purchase those transfer passes such as Freedom Pass which costs $98 for 7days? We need return airport transfers (we are from Melbourne) and 2 return theme park transfers (we are going to Movie World and Dream World).

Where else should we go? And what else should we do there? Any answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

  1. Hi there!

I think it's a great idea to get a Freedom Pass to travel around on the Gold Coast if you're without a car. You will save a lot of money in getting around, including to and from Coolangatta airport which is 20 kilometres from Surfers.

You will love Movie World and Dream World. But don't forget to travel south from Surfers to Broadbeach to explore its wonderful shopping arcades, cafes and beaches and of course the casino. Further south is Burleigh Heads, which is halfway between the airport and Surfers... it's quite lovely to walk around the headland and sit on the rocks overlooking the ocean.

Try to visit Coolangatta and Rainbow Beach which is just a short distance south of the airport. In my opinion its the best part of the Gold Coast.

Surfers Paradise has a new tourist attraction apparently in the middle of the area. It's Dracula's Haunted House and was recently reviewed on Getaway. Here's the link.

    Have a fantastic holiday!!

  2. I've been to the Gold Coast is it's very nice there. Remember to take sunglasses because that sun can get very bright. Getting passes for theme parks is a good idea, you'll save money in the end. Make sure you visit Dream World, there's heaps of things to do there. Movie World is great too, it's more family friendly. The Gold Coast is great because you don't even need to plan anything before you go. Just wondering around the place you'll find pleanty to do.

I hope you found this helpful.

  3. I live in Brisbane and I've been to the Gold Coast many times.  The main thing to remember there is Slip, Slop, Slap as the sun is incredibly hot and unforgiving.  As for your question some great things to do at the Gold Coast are...

-Go to the main themeparks (Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World, Underwater World and Wet 'n' Wild")

-Go to the beach, the surf at surfers or at Burley Heads is magnificent

-Have a few drinks at some of the famous pubs there, it won't be hard to come across any.

-Attend a Gold Coast Titans game at the new Skilled Stadium at Robina

-Go shopping as there are many malls

The list goes on but I hope this helps...
