It's appetite is normal & all it's activities are also fine. What could be the reason for the red spot? The tank is clean & with good filters. There are some plants in the tank.

Also, about a month back it had developed a similar red spot under its chin, but it healed in couple of days. Can you please help me? Would you like to see some photographs? The other fishes seem alright.

  1. Is it a spot or more like an open sore? Sometimes fish get spots on their scales over periods of time in their life, my dalmation molly is covered in rust colored spots, and apparently it's normal. If it is like a sore, it could be a fish disease. Check at your local fish store for some treatments.

  2. This is very symptomatic of fish lice. A louse attaches to the goldfish and at first, there is a small greenish looking spot (just a millimeter or two in size). The fish is irritated by the louse and rubs itself against anything it can to get the louse off. Eventually the louse comes off and a red spot or sore remains. Fish lice breed like crazy and they can be difficult to rid your tank of. But what you describe is a classic symptom of a fish lice infection.

  3. red spot some cause from poor water condition and fish scratching in the pebbles or plants.  Catch the infected one put it on a quarantine the add rocksalt if you are in a hurry add methylene blue with the rocksalt and will be fine 2 to 3 days with good aeration and daily partial water change.

  4. It is probably septicemia, which is a bacterial blood infection that takes advantage of stressed fish.  Many times, it will clear up as the fish relaxes, and return again at the next sign of stress (poor water quality, aggression, cramped environment, etc.).  The best way to keep it away is with frequent water changes and a MUCH larger tank.  If you have Common Goldfish, you should be looking at a tank close to 650 liters!  For Fancy Goldfish, you'd need about 200 liters.  These are NOT small fish, with the Commons and Fancies reaching 35 and 17 cm respectively.
