I opened a Demat account with ICICI, India, Pune in Nov. 2007. Now I want to close it and I also want a lettr from ICICI saying that "my Demat account no.xxxxxx has been closed". I need this letter for taxation purpose. ICICI representatives were initially v. helpful when I opened the account, but on hearing that I no longer want to keep the account , they don't seem to keen to giving me the correct answers. Can anyone plz tell me how to go about closing the account and also how to obtain the letter for taxation purpose? Thnx

  1. Better way to walk in the local ICICI Bank Branch and hand over the letter stating request for closure, just take a receiving of it. It will solve ur problem, Normally no broking houses issues a letter stating account no. XXXXXX has been closed.

The acknowledgement you will get against your request would be only proof for it.

    Thanks

  2. Please visit ICICI Bank website, click on demat services for assistance and lodge a complaint at complaints section of the same web page with details regarding your account, your grievance will be properly addressed and redressed soon.

  3. Send them a letter in the prescribed form if any or in a plain paper in writing stating your decision to close the account. Enclose the original documents if any you have. You may hand over the letter to the officer concerned and get an acknowledgement. If no action is taken, lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman for Banking Services.
