Hi, I have a HD ready TV, No built in tuner, I have cable & I do not want a cable box, what r my other options

I have the cable going into my VCR and I currently controll the channels through my VCR, but I want to get rid of my VCR and get a tuner to be able to watch HD channels. Please advise.

  1. The answer really depends on what country you live in and what kind of cable system is installed where you live (local specifics not usually provided by the cable company since they want to rent you their box).  If you live in the US you might be able to find a DVD recorder that has NTSC, ATSC and QAM tuning which has a HDMI output or Component Video and Audio output which could connect to your TV.  If you do not live in the US then this may not be your local TV standard and this is not want you may need.  Check with a local electronics store that you trust.  Or just rent the cable box and avoid the guessing game.


  2. Since you don't want the VCR then give it up/away and since you want a tuner, go get it. Why stress yourself over something of no importance to you?!

  3. Check with your cable company. You probably have a digital signal already so you will not have to make any changes.
