  1. I loved the kids being smaller we always had a blast at their parties.  We did all the classic games that Rachel mentioned and we also had a pinata which the kids always loved.  Another game we did was got the kids into two teams, then we would take two adults and sit them in a chair and put them in a rain poncho and cover their face with whip cream.  the teams all had a water gun and the team that spreayed all the shaving cream off first, using only the water gun won.  The kids loved it and it provided about 15 minutes of intertainment.

  2. Field day party.  Do things like all kinds of easy races.

  3. sack races

    water balloon fight

    egg and spoon race

    running race

    3 leg race

    treasure hunt

    hopping race

toss the water ballon (pair up and throw back and forth one step back every catch)

    bug hunt

  4. The good thing about 5 year olds is that they are relatively easy to please when it comes to parties.  As long as they have their friends, fun and food they like,  it's all good.  Park is great or your backyard.  Anything to do with water was a hit with my daughter, lots of games with balloons etc. They love all the old fashioned games as well.  Mine really loved her Dad being involved.  Make or buy a cake of his choice like spiderman etc. Keep it short like about 2 - 2 1/2 hrs and don't serve too much food.  Cake, a few lollies/chips and hot dogs. etc.  Cordial (not soft drink).  A good idea to have a back up plan if it rains, like an undercover area.  Been there done that, it gets harder every year for the next 4 so keep it simple and fun and build it up as he gets older.  HAVE FUN!

  5. Soccer games

    scavenger hunt

You could rent one of those jumpy blow up things...they love those. My 5 year old recently went to a birthday party that had one and he never left the thing the whole time we were there.

They had also rented a popcorn machine and a snow cone machine. It was neat.

  6. have it at like a local park or something so the play stuff is already there.

  7. GI joe is fun, wear camo and have face paint with a waterballon war.
