What is the cheapest way to travel around these plcs? Do I take train/plane etc? Is there a train from Rome to Milan and Barcelona to Madrid? How much does it cost to travel around these places?

  1. Cheapest would be by bus.  Easiest is train, if your stops are close together, or plane, if you are taking a longer distance.  Planes, on those cheapo airlines, can actually be cheaper than the trains, plus, since your time may be limited, you save a day from, say, Sevilla to Rome...make that a day or two.

Yeah, there's a high-speed AVE betw. Barc. and Madrid.  I think it takes less than two or three hours, now.  I think it has opened...check renfe.com for Spanish trains.  There's an English page to the site.

Surely there's a direct train from Rome to Milan, but you might want to check the flights, too. and compare.

I don't know how romantic Milan is, but Rome, yeah!  And Florence, and Venice!  I would also expect Capri, Pisa, and the Amalfi coast, would all be really romantic.

Barcelona?  Not as much so...more modern and cultural, and a party city, but I didn't find it terribly Romantic.

Madrid is more traditional.  More old-fashioned and pretty in a grander sense than Barcelona (which, don't get me wrong, shouldn't be missed overall).

If you want true, romantic Spain, though, you want to go to Andalucía.  Sevilla is my fave.  I lived there in college, so my heart still has a piece of the city.  Granada is gorgeous!  Get tickets for the Alhambra online, and avoid much of hte lines!   And, if you want someplace a little off the beaten path and less well-known, but truly romantic, try Ronda!  I was there on a Saturday, and it seemed like the entire city was getting married!   We must have passed at least five different wedding parties having photos done.  (It was June, too!)

Portugal is pretty, too, and Germany, but I'm no expert on romantic spots in those countries.  You'll find someone to recommend best spots there.

  2. There are tons of trains between Madrid and Barcelona and between Rome and Milan, tons!

You have express trains, slow trains, fast trains, you name it, you have it.

Cost varies by type of train.

The faster the train the higher the ticket.

You even have sleep trains that accomodate you for a very comfortable (a nice honeymoon experience) overnight in the train...

use the link for further details.

  3. It's easiest (and cheapest!) to travel by train through all the different countries! Most train tickets are around 30 euros. Also, flying in Europe is pretty cheap, try Vueling Air (I flew from Madrid, Spain to Venice, Italy for only 60 euros!) And, the public transportation in Europe is really good!
