Hi, I want to know where in Italy is nice, relaxing, modern and affordable to live (compared to N.Y.C)?

Hello,

I'm Italian and I can tell you that a lot of Italian cities are nice, relaxing, modern and afforrdable (such as Milano or Roma), but if you live in NYC, I think you won't find other nice, relaxing and modern cities like yours (I've been there in 1999: it's a wonderful city and I love it very much)!

Compared to NYC, I think the cost of living should be lower, but I'm not sure... In Milan, for instance, a pizza margherita is about 8-9 Euro (sorry, I can't tell you the equivalent sum in dollar). Before the Euro, life was cheaper, but since the entry of the new value, cost of living in great cities is quite high.

But in smaller cities prices are lower and cost of living, expecially for apartments, acceptable.

But there is a great problem in smaller cities (but, honestly, in great cities, too!): I'm sorry to tell you Italian people cant' speak English very well (but at least we know it's a problem!).

I can't imagine American English...

I don't know what is you job, but I live near Milan and here you can find a lot of interesting jobs. If you want to live in Italy, I advise you a small city near a great city. But if I were you, I would choose a little town in Toscana or Umbria...

I'd like to disclose you that my Italian nickname means something like Dressed Fledged !!! (But I'm not sure it's the correct translation...)

I would suggest you go to middle-sized center north city. Bologna for example is excellent.

Lots of students, cost of living is not too high, the city is neither too big not too small, people are friendly and food is excellent.

If you want a smaller city Siena is extremely beautiful, but more costly.

Perugia, in Umbria, is also a great stay. There is the foreign university, and the places around are amazing. Only defect: it is far away from the sea.

Hi. I'm italian and i live in tuscany so i would suggest tuscany for your holiday. it's probably the most relaxing part of italy and i understand that tourists love it. I'm not sure compared to NYC but it surely is nice. Anyway you should visit rome and florence cause they're probably the best cities in italy. In summer they're joyful and sunny and you can see people till 2 or 3 am walking around the streets smiling and eating their ice cream... i suggest it ;) :) enjoy your trip!
