if your accompanied by a full license holder, but of course your not allowed on motorways, well not here in the uk. spain i'm not so sure

Do you mean to drive or use as ID to get on a plane?  If you want to use it as ID, you need to check with the airline what form of ID they'll accept but most insist on a passport, particularly if you're flying to the continent.  The Foreign Office has a note on their website to say the Spanish authorities ask for date of birth, passport number & nationality before flying.
