  1. The traveler copied an answer about Amsterdam I gave to someone else this morning, if his copy is deleted, (as it should) here is a link to that answer:

But I think you want to know different things.

Natural beauty in the Netherlands is nearly all man made, the wildest nature you will find in the west of the Netherlands are in the Dunes, mostly in the wooded area just inland of the actual seadefence.

If you are based in Amsterdam you will find the easiest access by public transport is near Santpoort Noord, for that you take the train from Amsterdam Centraal towards Haarlem and Beverwijk. From the station you can actually see the start of the wooded area.

Here you will find a big wooded area to walk in, you can walk on till you get to the beach, but there will be very little in man made entertainment.

An other 'famous' natural beauty area is the National park 'de Hoge Veluwe'.

This is also known as the home of one of the nations best known museums:

You can come to the park by car or public transport and go to the museum by bike, they have some at the entrances to the park.

But just traveling between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague is going to show you some of the Dutch landschape.

The area you are going to travel through is still mainly open, flat and green land, mostly in use by farmers to keep cows.

Amsterdam, and most of the other Dutch towns have been walled cities, and they show it in their street plans, canals and old houses.

Though the Hague is about as old, it has never been a city till well after the times of the city walls. The most important buildings are for the national gouvernment, but you can also see the palace of justice, now the international court.

Rotterdam has been bombed almost completely flat in the war, about one church and maybe a handful of other buildings did escape the fate. Since then the town has been rebuild, in the modern style of the day.

So big parts of the center of town are 50's apartment buildings with shopping arcades on the ground floor, but much more modern buildings are very much there too.

And you are right, no tulips in the fields in August, although you might still see the odd tulip shaped souvenir, and it is even possible to get fresh tulips this time of year, as we do have growers who can deliver them any time of the year, but only when given enough warning, I think it was something like 3 months though.

  2. The best place in holland to find info is the ANWB (Dutch tourist organisation) look for: www.ANWB.nl

There are so many places fun to see in Amsterdam and in the rest of the country, just roaming around the town you will likely see a lot of nice sights.

A canal boat tour or a bicycle tour might be your way to see them.

If you are into museums, Amsterdam has a big collection:

This site  have many more kinds of entertainment, just follow links, within and out of it.

In Amsterdam you will find informal street entertainment, Dam square and Leidseplein are well known, but you might happen on a street artist in any part of town.

And of course, there is the oldest part of town, that is now taken over by the oldest profession, and other tolerated but not legal kinds of entertainment.

When you do go there, do not ignore the houses above street level, the houses are the oldest in town and often beautiful, certainly worth seeing.
