We have been given a kitchen from a member of family but the colour of them is not to my taste. I was wondering if I could paint the cupboards and doors white and replace the work surface with black marble, unfortunately my partner seems to think this would look tacky and "look as if they have been painted" could I possibly get round this. Please help as i despise the ones we have been given by his sister.

Thanks Michelle

  1. You could paint them but make sure you get a real top of the line paint and brushes. It will require much patience painting them. You will have to first give them a rough sanding to make the paint stick. You have a big advantage that they are not installed. Given that fact I would definitely go the air gun spray technique which looks really primo when done right. You need a big area to work in and you got to take your time to do it right regardless the method you use. I once tried to refinish some cabinets in a kitchen and I used a belt sander and i really damaged the heck out of them. I don't recommend that method. You might be best off going to a paint store that can assist you figuring it out or buying a book for this specifically on this topic on ebay or Amazon. Good Luck!
