Hi, anyone out there got some knowledge of dyslexia/dsypraxia plz...?

am a T.A., and from sept will be workin with a 9yr old child with the above, just after lil help as it appears child has bad home life and a constantly ill parent, gather no mum about, little outside help etc and wondered how I can best support the child socially and educationally in school etc, and help with the problems that may arise from dyslexia/dsypraxia etc, as child known for being challenging... any advice/ ideas welcome

  1. Hiya, I know a reasonable amount about dyslexia and dyspraxia. The school you'll work with will probably have their own set of resources and if need be a key worker for the child due to their background. I would suggest picking up a couple of books from the library as these can be really helpful, otherwise, I work for a publishing company who specialise in education resources and we have a fantastic book for children with dyslexic problems.

    Maybe you suggest to the school that they buy in some education products as this could also benefit others in the classroom. Hope this helps, Natalia

Try www.rfbd.org --Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic -- they'll have textbooks on audio recordings.  If you can't get those books, try any recordings of a book and have the child read along, or you read as the child reads along with you.  It's called multi-modal learning, and it helps if someone else puts together the sentences as they read along.
