Big is such a nebulous term. Nobody should offer plan advice without knowing  things like how many chickens, and for what purpose you are raising them, in what climate.

All of those considerations make such a big impact on a plan.

Even knowing whether you plan to use free range or confined,  open space or laying cages the birds stay in all the time.

And yes, once you have answered all those questions you need to think of questions like multiple barns vs a single barn, for things like disease isolation, having some birds in one barn while others are being cleaned and birds replaced.

Will you raise all chicks for a period in one barn then move them to another, to keep all chick handling equipment localized?  (That used to be a widespread practice.)

I would not recommend trying that construction project without at least visiting a lot of different models. And, do not expect operators of such barns to let you visit them. They are very alert to disease control.

Go for a competent contractor with experience in the field.

First, are you referring to broiler houses or layer houses?  Whichever company you contract with will give you their current specs for the houses.  It would be a waste of time and money to build before getting a contract.  You may end up having to make costly renovations on a new house!
