We've used Jenny at  VacationsToGo twice and were very happy.  We were surprised with a bottle of champagne delivered to our room, a certificate for $10 off a picture, and a $25 on-board credit.  Everything was exactly as they said it would be.

If you book your cruise with a travel agent, you will be provided with the best pricing, cabin location and whatever perks and specials are available.  You'll have a single point of contact if you have questions, or have a problem with flights delays, etc.  A travel agent knows the "good and bad" about the ships, itineraries and which shore excursions are the best.

If instead, you go directly with the cruise line or on one of the mega-internet sites, you'll get a different person each time you call.  Their job is to sell their product.

Of the big ships, Holland America and Princess have been in Alaska the longest and have the best relationships with suppliers.  Of the small ships, an Alaskan adventure with Cruise West cannot be beat.  The choices depend on what you want to experience and your budget.

I would be more than happy to help you with your Alaskan cruise. I can promise you the best rates allowed by the cruise lines along with exceptional service. As for the cruise line, Princess, Holland America or Celebrity are the best for the cruise only part of Alaska, but to really see Alaska you must also do a land tour. If you want to do a land tour you want Princess and you want to cruise first for the best price and in May or September. If you really want to go to Alaska and have choices on you cabin and cruise and cruise tour you need to book very soon.

I booked a cruise I just came back from off www.cheapcruises.com. A couple we met saved money on their balcony suite using overstock.com. Also a suggestion, add pre-paid tips to your account! You pay somewhere around $40 a person, which saves you from having to tip at the bar, for the waitstaff, the cabin person, etc. I still tipped additonal for outstanding service, but having this helped me budget out for my trip.

For virtually all cruise companies, the prices are enforced to be the same for all travel agencies.  As long as the travel agent does not add an extra fee, they should be able to access all the rates for any  given cruise.  

In my opinon the best way to work with a travel agent/agency is to have one locally that you can sit down and talk to.  You want an agent with a lot of expertise on the kind of travel you like to do.

You can book an Alaska cruise yourself without an agent right on line on any of the major cruise line web sites.  I have listed some below.  Here's some more information about Alaska cruising that you may find useful.

The best time to go on an Alaska cruise is when you can get the best price.   The Alaska cruise season is from May to Sept.  The best prices will be in May and Sept but you will see the same things as other times.  The weather is generally warmer in June, July and Aug, but it can also be pleasant in May and Sept. When we went a few years ago in May it was shirt sleeve weather (70's) in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The port stops will be the same but may be in a different order.  Some cruises ship itineraries are run in reverse order, North to South vs starting in Seattle or Vancouver. Check the cruise line web sites for variations by date, itinerary and price.

The best Alaska cruise experience is the CRUISE-TOUR. Princess, Holland America, and Royal Caribbean all run cruise tours which take you by train all the way to Fairbanks, Alaska. Princess and RC have special domed train cars for this. Your best chance to see wild animals will be if you do a cruise-tour where you go further north before or after cruising the inside passage. The only animals you are likely to see in the inside passage is seals.   If you get really lucky you may see a whale or a whale pod.   On the cruise-tours you can arrange to stop for a night or two in Taketna, or  Denali National Park. This will be your best opportunity to see Moose, Caribou, eagle, wolf, and bear. But you really need two days at Denali so that you have time to get one of the Park Service's buses that go deep into the park. Regular tour buses , cars and campers can only go about 3 or 4 miles into the park. The Park Service runs buses about 17 miles into the park, but you must get to the visitor center very early to reserve a spot on one of their buses. The train stops going

north and south do not get you to Denali in time or allow enough time for the deep back country buses.  With Princess, Holland America, and RC you can do the tour part first and then go to Seward or Whittier to get on ship for the inside passage part.  I recommend any of these three cruise lines, plus Celebrity, and also suggest doing the tour part first.
