  1. I live in Monica and the best is to bring euros because you can spend them straight away bumped into some people yesterday and they were running out of money because the hole in the wall machines were down as sometimes happens on a relatively small island ------ it's Sunday The 29'th at 11.35 in the morning the temperature is 27 and it should hit 35 today --have a nice Holiday

  2. Take a debit card instead preferably one that does not incur a charge i.e. Nationwide.  I have had trouble cashing travellers cheques abroad.

  3. I would say euros or maybe a combination of both. I wouldn't count on finding a lot of places that would actually take travellers cheques so maybe take some just in case you need them and plan on having to exchange them at a bank or exchange house somewhere. Same thing with the debit card. You will most likely get charged big fees for being abroad while using it. I would take it in case you need it but plan on using the euros for most things. Additionally, if you do bring it, make sure you call your bank and let them know you may be using the card in another country or they may freeze it when they see the odd transactions coming through. I am currently living overseas and had to do this with both my credit card and debit card so they wouldn't get cut off. They did that to me once a couple years ago in a different country and it really sucks not having access to needed money while you have everything sorted out and unfrozen.

  4. Travellers cheques are expensive to but and also to cash

Debit card is (visa or mastercard) is eccepted everywhere for cash withdralws and purchases BUT do check you card holders terms and conditions, many charge a flat fee for forign use.

Best possible deal is if you have a Nationwide Debit Card (no one else offers this service). No fees at all anywhere is the world, you get the mid rate for all currency withdrawls abroad (everyone else uses the amex tourist rate). In practical terms when everyone else is getting €1.20 to the pound, you would get €1.25 by using Nationwide debit card

  5. euros

they are certain to take them in independant bars

  6. Euros.

Never, ever get travellers cheques, you lose more commission than every other way of paying.

Check out this page for the best and cheapest way to get the euros

  7. i was recommended by my Building society to just use the ATM machines with my cash card, there is no commission /exchange rate charged for using them, and your money is safe in the bank when you don't need it

  8. euros however you can always use your card in a hole in the wall overthere to get cash

  9. Hi,  take your debit card for emergencies but we take some euros to cover first day there and most in pounds sterling as exchange rate is usually better than in UK.  There are lots of bureau de change, just check that there is no commission charge!
