hi, i had SC. driver license i tried to renew it. sc. dmv has been giving me run arround. i am a sc legal resident, my wife she is us citizen has applied for me. from INS so far i have received I-797 and I-797C. also, my I-130 WAS APPROVED but never received a copy. i have a requested a copy from USCIS office. but the think is when i went to renew it they ask me a copy of I-797 which i have so i gave to them..

and sc, dmv issued credential for 60 days.. after 3 week i received another notice asking I-797C. Which is i have so as per their instruction i faxed . when i call them to verify to making sure they have received. they told me what i have faxed to DMV is not enough.and then i went DMV, SC. WEBSITE. AND THEY DO ACCEPT THE I-797. as a proof of your legal status. NOW I AM CONFUSE AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? I WILL REALLY APPRICIATE IF SOME ONE ANSWER MY QUESTION. ALSO, WHILE I AM IN THIS SITUATION CAN I USE INTERNATIONAL DRIVER LICENSE KIND OF PERMIT? IS IT ACCEPTABLE IN STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA? IN SOUTH CAROLINA IDL IS IT LEGAL TO USE. I HAVE DRIVER LICENSE FROM MY HOME COUNTRY ALSO I AM THINKING TO GET MY IDL HERE IN USA. I FOUND SOME COMPANYS SAYING THAT THEY WILL ISSUE IDL PERMIT.. IS THERE SOMEBODY KNOWS REALLY HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS KIND OF ISSUES? tahnks...

  1. You can only get an IDL from the country that issued your license.  It will be valid in South Carolina as long as you are a visitor, with a valid passport from your home country.  If you are living in USA, you cannot use an IDL.

  2. There is NO SUCH THING as an IDL.  Actually, there is, but it is only a TRANSLATION of your NORMAL driver's license into several languages.  Legally, you must present the underlying license WITH the IDL for it to be recognized ANYWHERE.  If you are a legal resident of the US, your driver's license from your home country is NOT valid in the US.

Short form, You have to resolve the issue with the SC DMV.
