also just wondering the best cheapest remedy to get what looks like fleas off the poor little guy. He had them all over his belly and we saw them when we were cleaning him and bathing him. I got most of them off but sometimes they are hard to get because they move so quick. I just dont want fleas all over my house either. What should i do? Thanks!! Bill

  1. for fleas, make sure before you get frontline or advantage(i use advantage works great) that your kitten is old enough. my cats were six weeks when i got them covered in fleas. my dogs got a round of advantage and the kittens i bathed twice a day using a mild organic dish soap. the soap smothers the fleas. i think it took about a week to get rid of them. vacuum everywhere in your house, all cracks, couches and dispose the bag right away. as for spay i'd phone around, different vets, different prices, ask friends with animals where they take theirs.

  2. Spay/neuter costs vary per state and region. It could go from $50 to over $100 depending on the clinic and area. Some rescue organization can do it for free or charge a low fee. The same goes for vaccinations, the cost varies depending on how many are needed.

Some organizations provide information on where you can get affordable vaccinations and spay/neuter services. Some Petco stores offer affordable vaccinations. See sites below.

Regarding fleas, I agree with the previous poster, Frontline is a good option. Advantage is good too.

  3. I've gotten frontline off the internet for $30. It was petrx.com or something like that. Your vet can give you medicine for that too. I think when I took my cats for their first round of vaccinations, tests, etc, it was around $100. Mind you, they tested for everything- Feline Aid, Feline Leukemia, Worms, Fleas, and shots. The second round of vaccinations is cheaper because I didn't have to test for those things again. I have boy cats and to get them neutered was less than $150.00. It's really worth it to do all of this stuff to have a healthy cat. And honestly, after you pay for this stuff, having a cat is really cheap! It's just the up front cost.

** I just wanted to add that these costs depend on where you live... I read that some places are $900 for spaying?? That is crazy. Call around, even drive to a smaller town or county or something to find a cheaper price. My friend has done that.

  4. Well the cost depends on where you live. In the northeast it's about $110 for the first visit. You usually have to come back at least once for boosters. The spay is about $220 a neuter is about $180 these are very rough estimates. Basically it's not cheap.

As far as the fleas that depends on how old the kitten is. For most products that are safe and work they have to be at least 8 to 10 weeks old. Advantage, Frontline, and Revolution all work great they'll be gone with one does as long as you also treat your house and their bedding. If you kitten is younger I can only recommend vigilant combing with a flea come every day until he is old enough for a topical product.

  5. The best method is to get Frontline or Advantage from your vet.  Please do not use the cheap store brands as they are very dangerous to your pet.  The Frontline is put on the neck of the pet and is absorbed into the bloodstream and not only kills fleas but kills eggs and makes them sterile so that they cannot reproduce.  You should also spray your house, because if your cat has fleas so does your house.  Spray then vacuum, wait a couple of days and repeat until all fleas are killed in your house.  When you vacuum, empty the bag or sweeper OUTSIDE so that no captured live fleas escape from the vacuum.  Hope this helps.

  6. Well if you have a petsmart nearby theres a banfield inside which is a pet hospital and it costs about 50-60 dollars per shot if you dont have insurance and about 900 dollars for spaying without insurance.  i recommend you get insurance which is only 300 dollars a year.  and the best thing to get for a cat with fleas is frontline plus for cats.  best of luck! (:
