Can you tell me how far it is to go to these towns? and what is the cheapest way of transport. ?

Can we do that in 1 day or do we need two separate days for it?

Also, are there any castles around Zurich which are cheap to visit. Any place where you can buy choclate at wholesale prices?

  1. Lucerne is less than 2 hours by train.  Berne is farther, but

not so much to do there, I would skip it.  Train is the best

way by far to travel in Switzerland.  Fast, cheap and

very efficient.  The castle I can think of that's closest is

in Bavaria, outside Munich, it's that famous one, but it's

not so close, Switzerland doesn't have many castles.  I can

think of one on lake Geneva, but that's pretty far away too.

  2. If you have time in Luzern don´t miss the Rigi Kulm, its amazing.

Train is the cheapest I think.

  3. My advice to you is drive it - take one full day in Lucerne and include a trip up to Pilatus.  If you go to Lucerne, skipping Pilatus would be a huge waste.  Why Bern?  Take another day trip and hit The Rhein Falls in Schaffhausen , then go to Stein am Rhein, then follow Lake Konstanz to the German border.  It is a beautiful dirve.  Unless you have something specific you need to see in Bern, I would skip it - it is a city and you have certainly seen bears before, right??.  If you want to see a real castle, take the car to Fussen (sp?) which is King Ludwig's castle (The Disney castle) over the German border.  This is maybe a 3 - 3 1/2 hour drive from Zurich.  It can be done in one day.  We did it many times.

As far as chocolate goes, if you go to Germany to King Ludwig's castle, you will pass by the city of Flawil.  You can visit the Maestrani chocolate factory and they have an observation deck and a company store.  Check the times though - I think they are only open 2 - 6.  Lindt chocolate also has a company store just a few minutes outside of Zurich on the lake.  You can easily drive to it as well.  Call for times - they use to be open only a few days a month, but then they got smart and opened a few days a week (typical Swiss...) Lindt is much cheaper there and it is fun to go.  They only take CASH there, so be prepared.  Have fun.

  4. You can drive to these cities from Zürich in 1 day, (by train or car),  but it depends how much time you will spend in each city.

  5. The cheapest way would most likely be train.

But I would drive, but I love driving through Switzerland. And I think it would be easiest to see what you want.

You could do it one day. But if you have the money I would spend a night in Lucerne and then go to Bern the next day.

  6. You already have 2 answers regarding travel.

Buying chocolate wholesale?  Unless you are a retailer. Go to Migros or Manor, the cost is a bit lower than tourist stores

  7. Lucerne is about two hours by train from Zurich, Bern is one hour from both Zurich and Lucerne. You can do it in one day, if you leave very early (6:00 or 7:00 in the morning) and come back to Zurich at night (the trains stop their service at midnight)
