Question:

Hi, when you strum or pick a string on a guitar what is the correct way to do so? i keep popping it.

  2. you mean breaking the strings, don't you.  Just do like the guy said, and try to play a little lighter, where you skim the top of the strings with the pick, and not dig into them so much.

  3. by popping do you mean plucking the string to hard and making it bounce off the fret board?

    If that's the case when you picking try using the very tips of your fingers to graze it instead of digging in. One way to defiantly correct this is to grow nails like in a classical guitarist would. It may be a little unattractive but it gives a great sound! As for the the strumming try holding the pick slightly lighter in your hand so your not digging in to every string.
