  1. First question you need to ask is what kind of fishing.

If in a small lake a 12' to 16' boat with a small engine would work fine if it is just him and one or two friends with an engine of 5 to 20 HP.

In a river, a longer boat that is at least 20' with a flat bottom hull works very well in shallow faster water and an engine of 20 to 40 HP, a 60 hp with a jet unit is really nice.

In the Ocean or a really big lake where waves are an issue, a boat 20' and bigger with a deep V is much better.  This style boats can have engines from sixty to a couple of hundred horsepower...

Many more options, but that is about as basic as I can get with what you asked.

You can email me with any questions.

  2. Take it from me... cause I know all there is to know about most boats.  Problem is... I also know nothing at all about most "other" boats.

Some boats I like... some boats I don't like....

I like the boat next to me in the Marina... I think it is a beauty... but I don't want it for me... it's just not my kind of boat.

The guy that owns that boat, says he just loves my boat... but my boat is just not his kind of boat either.

There are probably 10 million other boaters out there that feel the same way...

So... my advice is "Don't take any advice at all."

Just take your other half out to dinner, and tell him you love him so much... you want to buy him a boat... and let him make his own choice.  If you want to... get a pre-paid Master Card or something - to go and buy the boat with.... Anything! But don't even try to "out guess him" on what he "might" want or like on this one... a shirt - yea, OK.... a boat... No... never!  Let him pick it out.... Cause "we" boaters... we will all recommend the one's "we" like... and there are 100 million of us out there in the "naked ocean" and almost no two of us have a boat like any one else's on the lake.

What a wonderful thought...  what a wonderful gift...

    What a lucky guy...

  5. I need to know a few things, salt water fishing? or fresh water. Do you want a motor on it? or do you want to row it. A 16 Ft. boat is a good size, you can use it in the ocean or a lake. You would need a trailer for it. If you want a motor for it, a 25HP would be just fine. Buy either fiberglass or aluminum not wood. Fiberglass is much heavier than aluminum. They both are good for salt water or freshwater. Lund makes a very good aluminum boat. Carolina skiff makes a very nice fiberglass boat. These are only 2 of many brands of boats, but they both are good boats and you can use them in either fresh or salt water. You really need a motor with either one. There are other boats out there that you can row also. Both of these boats can be used in very shallow water. They both have flotation built into them, so they will not sink. I don't know what else I can tell you. He is one lucky guy to have a wife who would even think about buying him a boat. Hope I have helped you.
